MR GUTHRIE'S CANDIDATURE
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—Will you allow me to enter my most emphatic protest against the unfairness of your " comments" in this morning's issue regarding Mr Guthrie's chance of election in the approaching contest for Mayor. lam strongly inclined to think that you very much underestimate the number and quality of the ratepayers who will record their votes in his favour. He is honest, intelligent, and energetic, and possibly if you had known a little more of the inner workings of our body politic you would not have been guilty of the supercilious sneer to which you have given utterance. The writer knows well each of the three candidates, and has no hesitation in asserting that Mr John Guthrie is not the least trustworthy. In any event ho will record his vote in his favour, honestly believing he is the best man, and also with a strong conviction that he will be tho winning man if merit is to win the day —I am. &c,
Ratepayer,
Dunedin, November 19,
[Our correspondent, liko Mr Guthrie himsalf, appears to think that; we have expressed an opinion as to Mr Gnthrie's merits. It is of his chances wo have spoken—whether rightly or not tho poll will Bhow.—Ed. 0. D. T.]
