A.team of Montecillo players, composed ] principally of First Fifteen men, asaisted by Heffernan and Home (of the Dunedin Club), proceeded to Balclutba on Saturday to play tho Balclutha team. An otherwise agreoable game was spoiled by the rough play indulged in by ono or two of the visitors. Tho weather was magnificent, and tho spectator!) were numerous and enthusiastic. The wonderful improvement that the Clutha team Iwb made in every department of the game duriug the Reason wan the subject of admiration on all sides; and it says n great deal for them when they managed to make such a hard fight for victory against their more- experienced opponents. Tho latter'a score of two goals was-got by a "pot" by 0. Leith trad a good place-kick of Buchan'g from a try gained by Dalian. Clutha's two tries were gained by Cork and Barr; but the place-kicks, unfortunately, did not'enhance tuo score. The best back'-plny on tho field was shown by Cork and Maepheraon, of Balelutha; Heffernan and Home, for the visitors; also showed up well. Cork made a splendid run from Clutha's twenty-five yards to right behind, his adversaries' goal-posta; and tho Clutha captain made a number of grand runs. The forwards' in both teams played well. Skitch, Woods, Petherick, Bentley, Dallas, and Beck did tho lion's share of.the Montecillo play; likewise Barr, Bain, Stewart, Harper, PoWley, Brewer, and Poppelwell for Balclutha. The Clutha team sustained a loss through Mathoson having to retire at an early stage of the game. Although the Montecillos allowed another player to take his placo, it did not "make up for his loss.
