(FUOM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

September C,

On Tuesday the weather cleared up, tho sun shinins out brightly, and tho fanners were in great spirits at what was considered a beneficent Bupply. But yesterday, with low barometrical signs, matteis assumed a very different aspect, as the rain again commenced to come down in earnest, and continued all last night in a constant downpour, the heaviest rainfall experienced here for the pa>t four or five years. The Shag and otlier rivers are in full flood and rising rapidly, although 1 do not anticipate that it will prove a serious rise, as tho weather at present appears to be again taking up, The result of the heavy downfall will bo to retard all farming operations for three or four days. k Tlio railway-line does not appear to havo suffered to the North, as the trains from Oamaru arrived up to time. But to the South matters appear different, as there are no trains to-day except tbo express, which arrived at 2.30 from Dunedin, the cause of the delay beiug slips in the neighbourhood of Puketerak.i and Waitati, the former being the more serious ; and although the authorities managed to clear the lino so that the express could pass it will be a day or two before the line is in pro per order
