THE BIG DREDGE AND TH BAR.
TO THE EDITOR.
; Sis,—l was surprised to wa astatement the other day. respecting the work done by dredge 222 in two days—viz., that 700 tons of sand had been removed. It would; be gratifying to the public to be informed how that amount was estimated; also what is the breadth of the bar that requires deepening :■> for it seems that a few more days' work at that rate "would set all right, if anything like the above quantity was = removed in the time stated. Dry sand, to weigh 700 tons,-would occupy a space of 1833 oubic yards, or if taken 18 yards wide, would deepen.the channel one-yard for a distance of lOOyards. : ~ . ':. !:.-...• ' _ A more detailed adcount would be both interesting and instructive, and much oblige.— I am, &c, ■-. • Inquiber. July 30. ■■■..■ ; ■■ .- j.,
