The Government of the United States have entered a protest against the introduction by Turkey of a system of ad valorem duties on goods coining from all countries oxcept Austria, Italy, and France. The reported settlement between Chile and Peru, whereby the latter ceded the provinces of Arica and Tacua to the Chilean Government, has been confirmed. Sir John Lubbock has introduced into the House of Commons a bill for the purpose of providing facilities for the registration of Colonial companies. Active warfaro is still going on at Madagascar, and the Malagasy Government have issued an order for the expulsion of. every French subject from the island. The Government have granted the following rewards for information afforded iv connection with the Phomix Park murders—viz. Thomas' Farrell, £1000, and Michael Cavanagh, £250. Prince Bismarck threatens to abolish tho German Reichstag unless they consent to his proposal re the Socialists.
