THE MERVYN CASE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Allow me to give the most unqualified contradiction to the statement, to which my attention has just been called, of Mr D. H. Mervyn in your paper of the 27th ult., that Mr John Smith, of Smith and Sons, Greenfisld Station, purchased a section at Tuapeka West at an extreme price, the license of which was cancelled on application by the Waste Lands Board. Mr John Smith, of Smith and Sons, never purchased a section at Tuapeka West, and never had a license for any section there or elsewhere cancelled. It is a pity that Mr Mervyn was not more correct in "quoting instances," as inaccuracies like the foregoing very materially weaken the cause which ne would advocate. I write this on behalf of my son, who has not vet seen Mr Mervyn's letter. —I am, &c, James Smith.
