SCOTT'S CASE. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—l feel sorry for Mr Henry Scott that he has not solected a bettor advocate by way of excusing his recent "lambing-down transaction than " Sheoak," of which I may say hero there are several facsimiles. " Bastard is one of them, and I conclude that the writer of tho letter in your issue of to-day is one of tho softer sox of tho latter family.

" Slieoak " in her letter miikes tho very same oxcuse, or reason, for Mr Scott not being likely to "be guilty of what has been laid to his charge," no "being in good circumstances," if not indopondout. It occurs to another " Traveller " that " lambing-down " may havo had considerable influence over those circumstances, and it is vory necessary when a case of the kind is found out that a severe example should bo made.

In tho_ matter referred to, tho Magistrate's application of tho word "disgraceful" was the contrary of being too .severe, and any excuse that Mr Scott and his fair friend "Mheoak" can now offer will only serve to slick thorn deeper into tho dirt from which thoy are struggling clumsily to get out. Qui accuse s'accime is well applied There, and I would rocommond Mr Scott and his feminino oak not to do tho liko again, even presuming that a lenient elective Licensing Bench may bo disposed to give him the opportunity of doing so during another year.—l am, &c, Wekpino Gum.
