ARRIVAL OF THE IONA.

Tho Norwegian barque lona, from Boston, arrived off Otago Heads on the night of the sth inst., and was towed up to the anchorage off Deborah Bay at 1.30 p.m. on tho Oth inst.; here she was boarded and cleared in by Mr J. Mackintosh, H.M. Customs surveyor. She brings 1000 tons, of measurement cargo, and is consigned to Messrs Bates, Sise, and Co. of this city Captain Ole Jansen reports leaving Boston on March 13th with moderate northerly winds, which continued until the 16th, and thenco she encountered a strong gale from S.E. to E., attended by a fearful sea; tho gale continued until March 20th, when tho weather moderated slightly, and Captain Janseu's attention was drawn to the fact that some of the cargo stowed under the forecastle-head had broken adrift, An effort was made to got at and secure it, but from the great quantity of cargo there was in the vessel it waß found impossible to get at it, ai,d tho effort was abandoned. She took the NE. trades in latitude 24 M.; they were strong, and carried her down to latitude 4 M., and were followed by light variables for 24 hours, when tho S.E. trades were taken in latitude 3N.,aud the equator crossed in longitude 28.27 W. on April 13th ; the trades were light, and gave out on April 28th, on which day Bhe sighted the island of Trinidad. Thence she had light variable winds until reaching latitude 27.30 S., lougitude 3 W., and on May 10th crossed the prime meridian in latitude 37 S., and two days later encountered a strong S.E. gale, with a terrific sea, which continued for three days, during which her foretopsail was blown clean away ; the galo carried her back to the westward, an 1 she crossed the prime meridian a second time on May 15th; thence Bhe had variable winds, and crossed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on May 21st, in latitude 39 S., meeting strong gales from E S.E. to S.E., and on May 29th, in longitude 40 X, encountered a fearful storm, with a heavy high sea, which broke on board and completely filled her decks ; the weather moderated on June 2nd, and thence she had N.N.E. to S.S.E. winds, strong, and increasing to gales; passed between St. Paul's and Amsterdam Islands on June 12th, but observed no signs of life; crossed the meridian cf Cape Leuwin on June 22ud, and that of Tasmania on June 29th; experienced strong westerly gales, and passed through Foveaux Straits on July 4th; made the Heads on the night of the sth, and wns towed up to the anchorage yeslerday.
