LAND BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday, when the members present were—Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), J. Duncan, and J. B. Bradshaw. MOUNT BENGEE. Mr John Thompson, on behalf of a few settlers, requested that sections 9,11,12,13, and 14, block XII, Beuger district, should be opened for selection under the deferred-pay-ment system. The District Land Officer reported that the sections were suitable for agricultural purposes, and The Chief Commissioner stated that when the land was being dealt with formerly these sections were withheld, as they were covered with manuka bush, which it wa3 then thought would bo of much service to the settlers. It was recommended that the application should be referred to the Government for approval. WEST COAST. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of the discoverer, applied for a pastoral license of a piece of open country on the West Coast, between Dusky Sound and Wet Jacket Arm Sound, of an area of about 6000 acres.—The application was recommended for the approval of the Governor-in-Council for the issuing of a pastoral license for 10 years over the area applied for, to be submitted to public auction. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of Mr William Docherty, applied for a prospecting license for minerals over a piece of country two mile 3 long by half a mile wide, north of Dusky Bay Sound, West Coast.—The license was granted over the area applied for— 640 acres—f or 12 months, at a rental of Id per acre. •

" WAREPA. Mr W. Hay requested that the proclamation setting aside section 25, black IX, Warepa district, as deferred-payment land, should be revoked, and the section opened for sale at 20s per acre.—The Chief Oommissiosee explained that the reason why these sections had been set aside was that they had been applied for, but the applicant had failed to take them up. As it was, they were unsuitable to be set aside as deferred-payment sections, and they were a great nuisance in the neighbourhood, especially on account of the rabbits. All that the Board had to do was to ask that the original resolution in regard to them should be carried out.— It was agreed to recommend the Government to revoke the proclamation referring to the j section in question.

TUAPEKA WEST. The District Land Officer forwarded an application by Mr John Hogg to purchase section 74, block 111, and section 63, block VI, Tuapeka West district, being portion of mining reserve, and recommended that the same be granted.—The Board decided to allow the applicant to purchase the land under section 164 of the Land Act, the District Land Officer to be appointed appraiser to make a valuation of it.

WAIPAHI, Licenses were ordered to be issued for the following sections in the Waipahi district, recently sold by auction -.—Section 9, block XII, j purchased by Joseph Bowman; section 25, block XII, purchased by William Bowman. HANIOTOTO. Messrs Connell and Moodie, on behalf of John Pottinger, requested the decision of the Board on his application to purchase section ! 21, block 11, Maniototo district, under the 28th section of the Land Act, the required conditions having been complied with by him.— The application was approved, subject to evidence of the consent of the runholder having been obtained. TABLE HILL. The Warden" at Lawrence forwarded for favourable consideration an application by Mr H. J. Andersen to purchase his residence area, containing la 3r Bp, section 80, block IV, Table Hill district.—Application approved. APPLICATIONS TO PURCHASE. » The following applications to purchase were recommended for the approval of the Governor :—15790, James Hore, sections 1 and 4, block XVI, and section 16, block VII, Maniototo ; 15S0c, Silas Hore, sections 2 and 3, block 111, Maniototo; 1763 c, James Eraser, section .5, block I, Budle district; 1248 c, J. H. Waighth, section 16, block X, Teviot district: 1608 c, William Saunders, sections 57, block I. and 30 and 33, block 111, Teviot; 1515 c, Stowavt M'Comb, section 37, block XVIII', Tuapeka East. APPLICATIONS FOE TRANSFER. Applications to transfer deferred-payment licenses under the 65th section of " The Land Act, 1877," were granted as follow :—William Donovan to Jeremiah Cassey, section 13, block I, Otara district; Edwin Ellas to Daniel Clark Dalton, section 2, block XV, Crookston district. , DEFERRED-PAYMENT LANDS. The following applications for issue of de-ferred-payment licenses weregranted ;— Waitahuna West—Peter Keenan, section 9, block IX; Patrick Downey, section 10, block VI; Duncan Robertson, section 23, block X; R. G. Fultou, section 14, block XI ; J?. S. Webster, section 10, block IX; William M'Millan, section 15, block XI; Hugh Bruce, section S, block XI; John Girvan, section-6, block XI. , Mount Hyde—John Wright, section 25, block XII, village settlement; Malcolm Miller, section 30, block Xn, do. Table Hill—Ross Crozier, section 19, block \Gimmerburn.—John Law, section 22, block IV. KASKLEBTJBN. The Chief Surveyorl having ■ transmitted plans, of blocks XI and XII, Rankleburn districty with description of land to be dealt with, it was deemed advisable, owing to the few members present, to adjourn farther consideration of the question till next meeting of the Board.
