CRICKET.

LANCASTER PARK V, PHffINIX CO.

This match (says the Lyttelton Times) resulted in a decisive win for Lancaster Park iii one innings, with 20 runs to spare. The victory was all the move creditable inasmuch as the batting of Messrs Davenport and Spring on the other side was of a high order. The former undoubtedly possesses the strongest defence of any Dunedin batsman who has visited Christchurch for some years past, while Mr Spring has during the "past fortnight repeatedly shown himself a fine - free hitter. Mr Harris also scored well in both innings, but his runs, thougli useful to his side, were not made in the style of the other two players. Mr Davenport, in addition to being so good a bat, showed himself an excellent field, an accomplishment which was certainly not shared in by all his comrades. As an all-round player, in short, he cannot be far off beingthe best man in the Southern Province. His style of batting, we might mention, is correct and patient to a degree, and though not powerful is easy, and, for a left-hander, remarkably taking. The bowling of the Lancastrians was straight throughout, and a great contrast to that of the Wanderers on Monday.
