Sm,—l hope you will permit me to reply to the letter of Mr James do Clifford in your issue of > esterday, because it puts me in a false position, as present secretary of the Society, with members of the Society and the public at large. As an old friend of Mr de Clifford, I regret that he should have taken the course ho lias dono without further consideration and previous communication with me. Everybodyaknows that he has not "absconded," »»d there is no suspicion that he liua embezzled any of the Society's money, but tho fact remains that there was an oversight and that ho has to account for £1123. a

Ho has acknowledged tho receipt of that sum, and the Oatnaru branch have declined to allow him to re--1 charge it to them, admitting tho sum ol £5 as bo- ■ twoen tho 11th April and 10th May last, with which they have boon duly re-charged. This statement is fully verifled by tho two telegrams of this date be--1 tween me and the secretary of the Oamarn branch. I annex them in order that thoy may bo published, if 1 you think proper to do so. Under tho circumstances, I think it not improbable 1 that Mr Clifford may upon investigation find that he has rcopivod tho money from another source.—l am, &c, Jaxes A. Rogers, Secretary.
