MURDER AND SUICIDE.
At Tamworth (N.S.W.), on the night of the 8:h inst., a Chinese hawker, named Ko Sod, ' shot two men named John Smith and John : MCann. Ths Chinaman had been for some . time past resident in Tamworth, and waa con--1 sider^d a quiet and inoffensive man. He waa 1 camped on a piece of ground near Branbrny 8 , oyster =a)oon, and hsd been about town sellmg 1 veMtablea at aoveral hotels. During the afters noon some Unikins were tea«ing him, calling; ; after him " Paddy." which leemed to greatly , exaaperata him. The whole town was soon in a atate of commotion. The men wero taken into the Commercial Hotel Drs Fraau and White were sent for, and they speedily arrived on the scene. They searched for the balU unsuccessfully. M'C*nn israpiily finking, and has.loat, the use of the lower portion of his limbs. The Chinaman died immediately. The police took possession of the bodies and effects of the murdered men. 1 Commenting on the affair the Age writes :— "If we are determined that it is to the interest of the Colony that no Chinaman ehould live in it, let ua pass a law of deporting him out of it, and carry it into effect with aa much z?al as we may. Bnt if we first set the example of lawlessness, and goad him to despair by the cruelties we practise on him, it is no good pretending to be astonished if he now »nd then bsttera the inetruotiun that wa give him, ana 1 runs a-mnck through our streets, careless, whether he destroys the innooent aa well as the 1 guilty." _____«««,«.—
