EDUCATION BOARD

The ordinary meeting of the Ot»go Educa Won Board was held yesterday. PresentProfessor Shand(in the chair), Messrs Begg, Clark, Elder, and Fraer, .

FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee recommended that the application of Mr Stables for the value of improvements effected to the Waitahuna globo by bim should be daclined; that Mr . Yoraton, teacher, Taiaroa Heads, should receive three onths'leave of absence, owing to ill health; and that consideration of the Lower Harbour School Committee's application for addition to residence should be deferred until the Boardis informed of the amount to be placed at its disposal for school buildings. The Committee reomniended that the architect should be in. sttucted to have the stove and spquling of the Blueukia School attended to ; and that the Bum of LlO, the value of tank aud closet removed from the eld building by the Eloetkin School Committee, should be charged to the Commit tee and deducted from next year's allowance. The report was adopted. RESIGNATIONSThe following resignations were accepted :— Christina Winder, BCUoolmiatreßS, North Taieti; Mary F. Simpson, second assistant, Palmerston ; Thomas M'Kay, sixth assistant, Arthur street; W. P. Bruntou, fourth assistant, Union street. APPOINTMENTS. The following appointments were made :— W. P. Brunton, first assistant, Oamaru District High School; RobertHuie, head mister, W»repa; Chailes Nicholson, pupil teacher, Ksitaugata ; Annie Hope, pupil teacher, Kaicungata; Annie Bohning, pupil teacher, Naseby; Basßie Caruthers, pupil teacher, Lovell's Flat; William Waddell, head teaoher, Port Molyneux. Mr Begq opposed the Port Molyneux appointment. Mr Clack moved that the matter should be discussed in Committee. Mr Begg objected. There had already been one meeting in Committee on the subject, and as it was one ia which the public were greatly interested, it should be dißcuesed publicly. Oa the question being put, it was decided to discuss it in Committee, and the Board came to the following conclusion:—" That Mr Waddell be appointed, in accordance with the re commendation of the Port Molyneux Com mittea." Mr BEGO recorded his strong dissent to this, and paimed out certain irregularities in regard to Mr Wad Jell's previous conduct. ARTHUR STREET SCHOOL. The Dunedin Sciiool Committee forwarded a memorial from teachers and pupils of thi Arthur street School asking that the name of the school sijould be changed to "Middle District."—The Board saw no sufficient reason foi incurring the inconveniosci that would result by the changing of the name of the school, hooper's inlet. The Portobello Committee wrote declining to take charge of tho new school at Hooper's Inlet. It was resolved, on the moliin if Mr Begg— "That the Hooper's Inlet district be erected into a naw suhoul district, and that the secre tarytake tho necessary atef a for carrjing thit resolution into effect." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to L 4481 133 6J were passed for payment. SEACLIFF. In Committee it was decided that Martin Burko, maator of the Ssacliff School, Bhould receive three months' notice of dismissal. WAREPA. W. Christie, from " purely conscientiouf motives," wrote pointing oub that the election of a teacher fcr Warepa had been wrongly con ducted-—The Board decided that it could not interfere iv tbn matter.
