THE GAMBLING BILL.
According to a correspondent of a contemporary, the following are the objections made by the Lords to the Gaming and Lotteries Bill :—
The new clause, introduced by the House as section 19, is objected to because (1) the words "licensed preI mises " and " bettin^-hous':," and " " have no jdutineil meaning (■>) It makes it penal to keep a i book for cnturintr or rct'ordiiil' therein uny "etuuhj." 1(3) " Because it makes it penal to invite any person to 'make a bet, wh..-n-as making a bet i.- not illegal." Then the new clause, 43, is objected to, because it does not defer the comiii",' imo opi ration of the Act sufficiently loult. The Cuunci' prouo?e--"(l) To omit new tlauaa 9. {■>) Tv amend clause 15 by adding the wordi • thij sectiuli shall not apply to'affect newspapers which are not printed in Aew Zealand, 1(3) To am;.ud clause 4U by strikiny out the words 'No vember, lsa!,' and inserting- in lieu thereof the words 'January, ISS2.'"
