A DUNEDIN ANGLING SOCIETY.

TO THE SDITOK.

Sir.—A letter appears in to-day's Times suggesting tho formation of an Anglers' Society in Dunedin. The time has arrived for the large number of anglers ia Dunedin to form themselves into a society for the advancement and protection of angling. Tho Acclimatisation Society have nearly completed their work of stocking the rivers and lakes of Otago with fish, and it now behoves all true anglers to combine together and take such measures as will seem best for the preserya- i . tion, for purposes of sport, of the fish introduced into' r the country for their, benefit.: -The Water-ot-Leitb, from its convenience to tho city, naturally becomes th* , favourite fishing-ground of Duncdiuites, but an angling club Is urgently needed for many reasons that; at once will suggest themselves to all anglers :* proteo- -: , tion Irom poachers, seeing the. close Reason strictly * observed, collection of reliable'• Information about th* '' . fishing-grounds of the Province, and-numerous other matters ol interest to tho craft. A small annual subscription would euffice, and a meeting of persons wil.' . ling to form an interim committee should he at onco '* called to take steps to organise an Angling Society. ' | I am sure every assistance would be rendered by the . Acclimatisation Society. Trusting the matter will not be allowed to drop,—l am, &c., ■ , . . Robiri M'KlHfiE. ~": Dunedin, August 17th."- .
