Gheykooth, September 23rd, A public meeting w»e held last evening ia the Volunteer Hall to urge upon the Government the necessity of more expeditioudy proceeding with the harbour works. His Worship the Mayor was in the chair. The following resolutions were carried unanimously:—" That in the opinion of this meeticg the Grey harbour works are not being carried on with aeok vigour and expedition as their itnportaooo demands they should be: this meeting would therefore respectfully urge upon the Government the absolute necessity of immediately prosecuting the construction of the harbour works with greater vigour, consistent with efficiency." " That in the opinion of this meeting it is advisable that the works should be carried out by contract as fsr as the raising and tipping of stone upon the training-wall is concerned" Another resolution was also passed appointing a committee to give effect to the foregoing resolutions, and send matters Oβ to the Government.
