BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CITY.

NEW BLOCK ON THE SCENE OP THE GEOItGE STUEET FIRE. The latter i-i being built by Messrs Tinck and Grassy, from pla'iH by Mtssrs Wa'e-i and Stevento-i, architects. It is a two-atoiey building, und has a total froiitige to George sireet of OS feet, by a depth of 48 feet, and the height is 34 feet. It will comprise two double shops and one tingle ditto. The double shops are each 25J feet by 34£ feet, wilh two rjoms behind each on the ground floor, and eight rooms over each on tie upper 9 >rr. The single shop is 13 feet 6 inches by 24 f^et 6 inches; has an office and workroom brhind. and on tha upper floor five dwell-ing-rcoms. Toe dweUiDg-rooms in the case < f the double shops ara ao arranged that they may be leased separately if required. The ceilings in the Bhopj will be 14 feet high, and in the upper storey 11 fset. A novelty to Duneiin has been introduced by the architects in the shape of a new system of ventilation, secured by a speeially-cons'ructed window. This plan was ai original idea on the part of the architects, and wa3 firat brought into nsj by them in connection with the Lawrence Hospital. The block is expected to be out of the hands of thn contractors in about two months. NEW BLOCK ADJOINING THE WHITE HORSE COENEB. Mr Mollison's new block ia of three stoieys, with a cellar in addition, and it is his intention to re-erect tho White Horse at some future time on the same plan, when this will form one of tbe finest blocks iv the city. Tin present building has a frontage of 37 feat, is CO feet in depth, and 49 feet iv total height.
