EDUCATION BOARD.
«, A special meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday, when there were present: Messis Donald Reid (chairman), J. Fulton, H. Bastings, W. Elder, J. Green, M. Fiwr, H, Clark, A. C. Begg, and Professor Shand. ELECTION OF MEMBERS. The first and principal business of the meeting was the election of three members of the Board, in the place of Messrs Reid, Fraer, and Green, balloted out. (The former did not put up for re-election.) The Secretary read the voting returns as follows :— M Fra-r .. .. ..81 K. Barringy .. .. ..73 J. Green .. .. .. 62 A. C. Strode .. .. .. 41 E. B.Cargill .. .. ..33 Rev. Dr Uoseby .. .. 12 R. Gillies .. .. .. 9 The first three —Messrs Fraer, Ramsay, and Green—iveie therefore declared tlected. OTHER BUSINESS. The Bendigo School Committee jiskdl for an allowance of L2O for school furniture. It was mentioned that the residents of Bendigo had themselves erected a Hchoolhouse, and that they had agreed to make up th 3 teacher's salary to Ll2O per year. On the motion of Mr Fkaeu the request of tha Committee was acceded to. The Bum of L 37 lOd was, upon the recommendation of Mr Somerville, inspactor of buildings, granted to the Andtrson's Bny Committee for expenditure upon gallery, desks, painting, &c. An application by the Waitepska School Committee, for a grant of LSO, for the purpose of re-painting the schoolhouse, erecting coalshed, &c, was referred to the Inspector of Buildings for report. Mr W. E. Griffin, chairman of the public meeting held at Macrae3 for the election of a school committee, write in explanation of a complaint of iuformality in the mode of election, previou-ly lodged with the Board by a Mr Peddie; and the Board having considered the matter, decided that there was no reason for interference with the election. This was the whole of the business.
