CITY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the City Council was held yesterday in connection with the tramway deviation in Princes street. There were pre sent: His Worship the Mayor, Cis Fish, Gore, Roberta, Webb, M'Kinnou, Isaac, Leaiy, Doughty, and Thomson. Mr Miram% city surveyor, was aho present. The Mayor explained that te had thought it advisable to call a special meeting in connection with the subject c f the deviation of the tramway-line in Princes street. After leaving the meeting the previous day, at which the subject had been considered, he had met the con tract ow with Mr Mirains, and after what had then taken place he had judged it wise to call them together. He might say that in substance ttie contractors were willing to carry out what had been suggested by the Council yesterday. The Council might go into Committee over the matter. On the motion of Cr Webb, the Council went into Committee. In Committee, Cr Thomson moved, and Cr Leahy seconded—" That permission be given for the cuive to commence at the north corner of High street, and proceed therefrom at the same distance from the kerb as in tha narrow part of Princes street." An amendment was proposed by Cr Fish, and seconded by Cr Goke—" That the curve take place at tLu north cornet of Rattray street, as on the original plan." The amendment was lost, and the motion carried. Cr M'Kinnon supported the amendment, and Cr Webb voted against both motion and amendment. On the Council resuming, the action of the Committee was confirmed, and the meeting then rose.
