MEETINGS.

The adjourned annual meeting of tho shareholders of the Dunedin Sale-yards Company (Limited) waß held at the offices on the 31st ult., Mr J. Roberts in the chair. The report and balance-sheet, as read, were, on the motion of Mr W. C. Smith, seconded by Mr A. Maclean, adopted. It was moved by Mr Driver, seconded by Mr A. Maclean, and carried—" That the sum of 1/489 Os ld, the amount at credit of the profit and loss account, be carried forward until next year." The retiring directors, Messrs J. Roberts, H. Driver, James Shand, W. C. Smith, and Alex. Maclean, were reelected for the ensuing year. A vote of thanks to tho directors for the satisfactory position uf the Company closed the proceedings. We understand that a meeting of the Trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank was hold recently, when the balance-sheet was presented, showing that the profits to the 31st December last amounted to L 12,655 19.s 4d. Of this sum it wai resolved, after obtaining the sanction of tho Governor in Council, in terms of the Act recently passed, to hand over to tho Benevolent Institution L 7515. Whilst tbe receipt of this amount must prove moßt acceptable to the Committee of the Benevolent Institution, it must also bo a source of gratification to tho Trustees of the Bank to find themselves in a position to be able to afford such substantial assistance to an institution that renders important service to so largo a portion of the community. We congratulate them on the success of the Bank, and trust it may continus to prosper, and thus be able in due time to render further help either to the Benevolent or some kindred institution.

The Hibernian-Australasian Catholic Benefit

Society held its' annual district meeting last week, when the following officers were duly eleoted ~and installed:—District President,: Edward ,7 Carroll; District Vice-president, Robert Carroll; District Treasurer, M. Conhellan: District Secretary, Nicolas p'Riley,;: and Auditors, John Galagher and Johh Harris. . ~ -. _ The annual meeting of the members of St. John's Church, Milton, was. held on January 23th. The Rev. Mr llonaldson occupied the chair. The balance sheet and report were read and adopted. At the fifth annual meeting of the Imperial Building and Investment Society, which was held on the 6th, the directors reported that the net profits available for distribution amounted to L 901133 sd, arid out of this sum they pr 6-; pose to declare a bonus of 10 per cent, on the amount of the investing members' accounts. Messrs Palmer, Rennie, and, Adams were elected Directors ; and Mr Thomas Black was re-appointed auditor. A meeting of the] Otago Acclimatisation Society was held on 12th February. There were present:— Messrs J. H. Harris (in the chair), W. Arthur, \V. C. Smith, A. Bathgate, P. C. Neill, A. C. Begg, W. Hepburn, Brydone, and Howorth. A letter was read from Captain Williams, dated at San Francisco, stating that a shipment of prairie hens would probably be sent by the January etoamer, due at Auckland on the 12th instant, aud it was decided to send them to Mr Shennan, at Maniototo, when they arrived. A communication from the Government was received, stating that a million of whitefi-m ova wore expected by this month's steamer from San Francisco, and that it had beeu determined to allocate a fourth of them to the Otago Acclimatisation Society. The Society resolved that their curator, Mr Deans, bo instructed to proceed to Queenstown to make arrangements for the hatching of the fish, and the placing of them in Lake Wakatip, and also tbat Mr Deaus should co-operate with the Southland curator, Mr Howard. Mr Charles Traill, of Stewart's Island, applied for six or seven dozen starling-, larks, and blackbirds, for which he was prepared to subscribe Ll2 to the Society's funds. It was arranged to send the curator down with the birds in the autumn.
