General Stuart advances on Candahar to-day through the Gwarja and the Khojuk Pass. It is stated.that the town is weakly garrisoned
The British fleets returns to Asraid, provisions being unobtainable at Artaki, The revenue returns for the December quarter show a large increase.
■ Later. The Governor of Candahar is preparing for a vigorous defence. London, January Ist. The City of Glasgow Bank call will realise £800,000. The secretary has been released, and becomes a Crown witness. Turkish Commissioners have been appointed to surrender Podgoritza, Montenegro. The City of Glasgow Bank pays a dividend of five shillings on February 3rd. The Khan of Kelat is desirous of cooperating with the British advance on Candahar.
The official correspondence with reference to reforms in Asia Minor has been published. Lord Salisbury, in a dispatch, applauds and accepts the concessions of the Porte as an adequate instalment to the complete execution of the reforms. The American Secretary to the Treasury holds $10,000,000 of gold for the resumption of specie payments.

A gun exploded on board H.M.S. Thunderer at Port Ismid, destroying the turret, killing seven and wounding 40 of the crew.
INTERCOLONIAL,
[Reuters Special to the Associated Press.] Sydney, January ?th. The miners and other employes of the Bulli Colliery have bean dismissed, aad all work is at a standstill. Melbourne, January 7th.
A deputation from the Harbour Trust waited on'ths Minister of Lands with a proposal to supply half a million tons of silt for the reclamation of the swamps around the city at a cost of two shillings per ton. Mr Lougmore promisad to consult his colleagues.
