A degree of greater s.itisfaet'on pervades the market this week. Inquiry has been more general, while in certain leading lines tlit-re has been some considerable business done. In brandy, although Hume advices continue to point to an inevitable rise, the market remains unaffected In one of the most honest an-i moderate of reports—that furnißhed by Messrs M. Ciaik and Sons-it is said : - "According to advices f' om Cognac, if fine weather should set in between this and"the gathering, good quality will result, though the quantity urn he but moderate." Quotations rerrnn very much the same : Henne3sy's, in case, 3s 6d, in bulk, 93 to 9s 3d per ga lon ; A.V.C., 21b 6d and 7a 3d to 7s GI ; Otaru'3, 2Gi Gl and 8a 3d; Beviere, Gurdnit, and Co.. and Rouyer, Guillet, and Co., 27s ta 27s Cd, cisc, as Od to 8s 9d per gallnc, bulk. In whisky the same apathy continues—trade being limited to parcels of very limited extent, and required for immediate consumption. In mm some demand exists at present for station purposes, and Lemon Hart's is worth from 4s to 4s 3d, other brjnds in proportion. In Geneva, JDKZ is in fair demand at 12s 9d—a brisk demand being reported for small contents labeled | and capsulled at 13s, trade parcels, wine ia dull. I here ia apparently no In isle season for ports and shenies now. The course of the market, once very markedly improved from low to god medium, and some few liuher class descriptions, in these standard wines. But latterly it has exhibited a diff rent phase, and persistently dec ined in consumption, stocks as a consequence accumulating on Innd This can only be satisfactorily and permanently bettered by lessening, or for a time cosing, import itions. The summer demand for carets, and oihor light, descripti >ns, Ins set in, clarets selling freely just lit tbe present time. Imported a'e and porter remain exceeding!}7 quiet. In re, there was a littlo spurt last week, but not, enough to n ach into this ; and both are actually alnnst as if out of the market. Jn to v, buyers still wait the arrival of our mis-ing cargoes, in the Carl Ludwijr, and Diamont—tha former having been forced to seek Yokohama for repairs, and being » ow 135 days out; the latter 102 days. The May, at WVllinpton, reports hiving s ghted a vessel some days aro in Cook Strait, which she took to have been the Diamont. If it has we shall soon know, Meantime there is a continuation of the fair enqu'ry which has been maintained for last season's teA*, and at satisfactory prices, considering the period of tli^j year wo havo now reached. In sugar, there is a good demand fir the Dunedin cargo of the Marie, and one-h >lf of the smaller Christehu'c") portion of the same cargo, whieli Wi<s purchased by a house heic, has been also all sold, bu;, at rates which altlnugh full market d:d not reach what Mauritius advances would have justified. Prom advices iu&t to hand we learn, that the Geo, Noblo, with 300 tons, left Port Louis on Sth September; that the Qieen of the South, with 400 tons, was taken up, for tither Dutieriiu or Lyttelton ; and that besidos these other cargoes Wore" expected. Li provisions, thero is not much improvement to note. Cheese is becoming se^rci. nnd sells at Gd per lb this week, it was quoted CJd last we^k. Oys-ters are plentiful, and quoted at 4s fld ; sardines, halves at 8) 9d, quarters at 6s 3d. Lobsters aie slightly advancing, and in San Francisco have gone up very considerably ; salmon is likewise advancing. In dried fruits, there is every prospect of great scarcity and dearne-s. The damigo done to the currant croi> by heavy rains proves very Berious. It was ca'culated that soiiie £0,000 tons were destroyed and a very large portion of the cop damaged. The value, it is said, for fine conditioned fruit is likely to advance. New Pu'tana raisins are to hand, but the quality is indifferent, and it is doubtful if shipments of these presently received are fit for sending on a long voyage. Advices are no-v in Dunedin of some portions of the new season's b^ing on their WJ-i'' Prices remain meanwhile unprecedenteJly low. Caudler. continue dull. Price's are out of the market; DeHoubaix's are selling at 9Jd, Kerosene may be quoted (the usual market brands) at Is 8d in bond. Cornsacks are in defraud, and now worth 11s 3d. Woolpacks can be bought for 3s 6J, but are held by some parties for 3s 9J. Cement continues to rule high, although recent arrivals hive improved the quantity of stocks on hand. In timber, all kinds of colonial aro advancing in prico, and kauri in particular. Mills aro full of orders for the next two months. Red piU3 haß advanced with the rest, the supply having been withheld lately because the bush mill proprietors have found the returns unremunerative and discouraging ; but the whole tone of the market for colonial woods is at present lively and improved. Rice, Fatna, new crop, is firmly held for £21 in bond. Flour remains same as last week; tho millers' tariff being still £16 in 2001b sacks; £16 5s in 1001b bigs, £1G 10s in 501b bajjs. Grain of all kinds is declining in value. Wheat is held for les3 nominally than it was last week— say for from 6s to 7s, according to sample; but millers refuse to give more for good samples than from 6s to Cs 3d. Oats are held firmly at from 3s Id to 3s 3d for good milling, and from 2s 9d to 3s for feed. Barley is neglected. Pearl barley is selling at £20. Oatmeal is quoied at £17, bran at £4 ss, pollard at £7.

M'Landbess, Hepburn, and Co. report having held a sale in their room', Manse street, on Saturday, 10th November, of the unsold sections in the Township of Burkes. The sile drew together a very large audienro. After spirited competition, 78 sections were cleared off at prices rangirg from £10 to £47, realising on the whole £12S0, showing that the valuo of property in that locality is still on the increas". The few unsold unsold sections are in tho hands of Mr G. W. Elliot for sale.
