THE OTAGO ROWING CLUB'S FOURS.

As there are many who at all times take a pleasure iv witnessing aquatic contests, a few remarks in reference to the races for the Otago Rowing Club's Fours this [afternoon may be perused with interest. As announced B orne four weeks since, the Committee of the Club named selected from the members five crews to pull for cups a distance of V, mile in inrigged boats. Between the time when these crews were formed and the present moment, the men have been out morning aud evening, working most assiduously, with the object of being sueeesniul when the race was pulled.

It will be remembered that, at the recent Port Chalmers Regattr., the Otago Rowing Club occupied a most conspicuous place among tho winning boats in the races for "Fonrs. The result was, of course, only obtained by regular and careful practice^ but th 9 infusion of now blood into tho Club by undoubtedly imparting fresh vigour, ' led considerably to their bsing placed in that creditable position which they hi ye been so lone; expected to fill.

The race, or races, this afternoon in tno Bay will bfi over a course of about a mile and a-half, from the sew-nd or lower red. beacon to a point off the Jetty street Wharf, and, although there seems some difficulty in naming tho final winning boat, 1 think the heats will be won as follows :—

First Heat: Messrß Cook ai,d Aspiuall's crows. I shall name Mr Aspinall's bnat as fch6 first to be past the winning post, tin's crew having been out much moro frequently

than its opponents, but, in point of merit, there is not much difference.

Second Heat: Messrs Tancred and Fenwick's crews. In this heat, I cannot hesitate to name Mr Tancred's boat as winners, .as the crew is undoubtedly, man for man, a much superior one ; but I shall expect Mr Fenwick to row a plucky losing race. Third Heat: Mr Johnston's crew. Row over.

In the final races, I shall look for both Aspinall's and Johnston's boats to be beaten by Tancred.

The following are the names of the ras pective teams :—

No. 1 Cook.

M'Laren, Mansford, Beal, ar.d

No. 2: Aldridgc, Hackworfch, Aspinall, and Neville.

No. 3: Jobaon, Chapman, Turton, and Tancred.

No. 4.: Dodds, Hosking, Vickerman, and Fenwick.

No. 5: ITackworth, Kettle, Hart, and Johnston.

The first race will start at half-past two. Stroke Oar.
