INTERPROVINCIAL ITEMS. Wellington, January 25th. The general sntries for the February race meeting will close at the Empire Hotel on Monday, ■ 29th inst. The out-rigger race did not come off to-day,'but will, probably this week, as the Timaru crew have accepted a challenge to row for £30, given by the Black Diamond crew, and will remain a few days longer.
; Auckland, January 25th. A large number of Natives related to the leading adherents of the Maori King migrated to beyond the confiscated boundary, where they propose to settle. Shera, a former partner in a large soft goods tirnv (Macarthur, Shera, ' and Co.) applied to the Supreme Court for a inanda-1 mus to restrain the new 'fiiin from trading until the co-partnership accounts are de- j termined. Strong affidavits have been filed on both sides. Arguments will be hoard tomorrow. The Star of the South arrived from Fiji. The schooner Sacramento, from San Francisco for Samoa, has been wrecked off Kaikola. The prisoners from Suva have been confined. The men were engaged on public works,- in charge of some local engineers and a native guard. They suddenly threw down their tools, and absconded without leave or license, to the number of about 34. Some of them were Bhot by sentries, and some were recaptured, but the greater number escaped to the mountains. A number were traced and shot down, but the mam body has not yet been overtaken. The Hon. Auditor-General is appointed Colonial Secretary, and W. M'Gregor, M. D., to act as Receiver-General. The sea-wall and roadway round the island is progressing satisfactorily. The work is now carried more than half-way round the Bay of Vagade. ; The contract with the Fiji Government to employ the > Star of the South between the various islands has expired and is not likely to be renewed. <: •■,' ;': : Business at Levuka is very dull. A large number, including Chinamen, have left for Sydney. : , •
Nelson, January 25th. ■ . Full choral service was held at the Church this morning on the occasion of < the opening of the General Synod. Five Bishops and a number of clergymen were present.
