The following correspondence has bees placed at our disposal:—
■ Dunedin, April 7th, 1876. Sir—l am instructed by the Council of the Otag.o> Rifle Association to bring under the notice of the Government a practice generally ,- adopted hi England with regard to Snider Rifles competitions.
I encbse for your information a. portion of the Wimbledon .Regulations of 1574, referring to the subject
The object of the Association in bringing this matter unuer the notice of tho Government so long prior to the corning shooting season is that*. should the Government decido upon following"the example of the National Rifle Association, all persons interested may have ample notic* thereof.—l have, &c, Sidney James, Sea O.E.A. Wellington, May 4th, 1876. I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 7th ult,, bringing under tha notice of the Government a practice generally adopted in England at Snider Kifle competitions of reversing the sliding bar of the back sight, and aiming over the straight edge of thtt bar, &&, and by the direction of tho Hon. Major Atkinson, in the absence of the Hon. bir JD. M'Lean, to inform you that it is nofc considered advisable to permit the present sighting of the rifles to be altered.—l am, fee., W.
