■ Drunkenness. —William Tiobs, charged with being drunk in Manse street, did not appear, and wa3 fined in the amount of his bail, 40s, in default, seven days' imprisonment. Alleged Cuiminal Assault.--James Pros. cott, a grey-hajred man, was charged with assaulting his neice, Eliza Ann Prescott, aj,ed seven years.—Dr Murphy having given medical evidence, Inspector Mallard had the hearing postponed for seven days. Kobbery prom a Shop.—Francis W. Fordham pleaded Not guilty to a charge of stealing a sealskin cap, valued at L 2, and a black hat, valued at 8s 6d, the property of James Hardy, draper.—James Hardy deposed to missing the articles mentioned ■ from his shop door at the corner of Rattray and Princes streets. Eobert M'Skimming swore to seeing accused take them and conceal them under his waistcoat. Prisoner attempted to prove an atihi by saying he was in a hotel a quarter of a mile away at the time stated. In order that he might bring ! witnesses to prove the same, he was remanded until Monday, at 2 o'clock. i Alleged Gambling in a Hotel. — Ann Diamond, proprietress of the Globe Hotel, Princes street South, was summoned for allowing gambling to take place on her licensed premises. Defendant was- unable to anpear, but the Bench agreed to'near the case iv her absence, as she knew nothing of the gambling. —Sergeant Anderson said he called at the Globe Hotel at midnight of the 10th ult., and saw some men throwing" dice, apparently for shillings. They informed him they were lodgers. Mrs Diamond's house was generally well conducted.—Mr J. Griffen made a statement on behalf of defendant, saying the men were lodgers, and Mrs Diamond knew nothing of the offence.—A penalty of 10s and costs was inflicted.
