PLOUGHING MATCHES.

[ TO THE EDITOR. I Sin—As most of your readers are interested ; in ploughing matches, I will, with your permission, make a few suggestions to tlio various Agricultural and Pastoral, Societies in tin's Province. Firstly, they might consider the advisability of having an annual match lor the Provincial Championship, changing the dintrict yearly. Secondly, I would propose that a inatcii for the Colonial Championship b<! held trieimially. Thirdly, that the prizes for the Derby matches bo considerably increased. _ If an effort were made in this direction, I believe it would be well supported. We can give handsome prizes for horse-racing, and surely some trophy worth gaining might be provided for the winner of an important ploughing match. Fourthly, the Committees should, on match days, procure more substantial food for the competitors than finely-cut sandwiched and mutton pies. In a rich district " flowing with milk and honey" like the Taieri, an appreciable hot dinner at mid-day might have been prepared for the ploughmen, whose appetites were considerably sharpened by the recent morning's work. Fiifthly, as the single furrow ploughs with, two hnrees appear quite ancient alongside the beautiful double furrows with three horses, is it desirable to class the former in the next annual matches ? Trusting that the above suggestions may be discussed and prove practical—l am, &c, Industry.
