GAS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir—lt is a matter of surprise to me that public attention has not long since been drawn to the insufficient supply and low illuminating quality of the gas whicli the present gasworks proprietors think fit to funrish us with. This apathy I suppose has its origin in the fact that the Corporation are expected to build a better works, or obtain the present ones and place them under more efficient control. Be this as it may, all I can say say is that I, in common with most of the people in trade, have sustained great loss and inconvenience from the short supply of gas and its poor quality, and therefore I think it is high time for the Corporation to take the gas supply into their own hands, aud so institute a better state of tlr.iigs in the gas line.—Yours, &<-., Gas Coxsumf.il
