RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, 28th April. (Before J. Bathgate, Esq., E.M.)
M'Donald ;-. Dryden.—Claim of £1 8s 9d. Mr Harris appeared for the defendant, and judgment went by consent. . Thomas Johnston r. Prank Gillon. —Claim of £13 0s 7<l, sundry furnishings. Mr Han-is appeared for the plaintiff, for whom judgment was given, with costs.
m 'E. Wilson and Co. r. George Woodrow.— This was a judgment summons. It appeared that the defendant had paid £20 on account. His Worship said it had been [roved that the defendant was able to satisfy the debt, and if it were not paid within a month from this date, an order of imprisonment for 30 days would be issued against him. ■
Paul and Co. v. Joseph Bousfield.—This was a judgment summons. Mr Harris appeared for the defendant, and proposed that the amount should be paid in monthly instabnents of £2. The case was adjourned till the 20th May, to test the defendant's ability aud willingness to pay.
Wm. J. Sutherland r. Alfred CotterilL— Claim of £10 15s Bd, for rent of dwelling-house and premises. Mr Harris appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Howorth for the defendant Evidence having been tendered, His Worship gave judgment for two months' rent (£lO 10s 8d), with costs.
Judgment went by default in the following cases: — Richard Burn v. William Smaill (Oaniaru), gooiis supplied, L2 Ss 9d; Fiaucis Hanagan •v. David t'ajneron, balance of account rendered, L 5 10s; William Hay r. Alfred Mellor,.illustrated Family Bible, L 3 12s .Oil Edward Rivers v. Jane Rivers.—Tlris was an applicsition under the Married Women's Property Protection Act, 1870, to rescind an order made by His Worship ex •garte. Mr E. Cook appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Bathgate for the defendant. Having been partly heard, the case was adjourned till Tuesday next The Court adjourned till the following morning.
