CITY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the City Council was held last evening, "to consider certain financial matters." There were present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr K.Ramsay) in the chair, and Messrs Beck, Carroll, Woodland, Reeves, Grant, Prosser, Walter, Fish, Isaac, Mercer, Barron, and Gibson. The Mayor : This is a special meeting called to consider a proposal, or motion to borrow, the sum of £45,000 on credit of the city rates under the authority of the OSth section of the Otago Municipal Corporitions Ordi--1 nance, ISOS, and to'ordertho necessary mortgage bonds to be prepared and dealt with. Mr Pkokkek thought it better that the Council should go into committee to consider a question like tins. He moved that the Council should go into committee. The Council then went into committee. On resuming, after a discussion of about half an hour, it was resolved that the subject be further con sulcred at a special meeting on Wednesday next, prior to the regular meeting. A second special meeting was then held to consider a letter from the manager of the Bank of New Zealand : alao a letter from Mr Hankey's attorney proposing to light the lamps by meter. The Council resolved itself into committee to consider these matters, and on resuming Adjourned for a week.
