THE DUNEDIN, PENINSULA, AND OCEANBEACH RAILWAY AND MR LARNACH.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sm- This letter was intended for publication in the Otago Witness newspaper ; but that paper having been issued yesterday, one day before I was aware of it, 1 beg you will allow me sullieient room in your columns for its insertion. What I am desirous of correcting is au error which appeared in a leading article in the Witness of the 2nd inst. ln that article the editor says that Mr Larnach is associated with the above company ; but allow me to say tbat that gentleman took no steps whatever in promotion of the Dunedin, Peninsula, and OceanBeach Railway, nor is he a shareholder in the company. As Mr Larnach now knows that tlie Dunedin, Peninsula, and Ocean-Beach Railway is not a sham, but a reality, I and others, being shareholders, would be most happy to have Mr Larnaoh associated with us as a shareholder.—l nm, &c, A SHAREHOLDER. TO TUE KDITOR. Sir—l observe in a leading article In the Witness of the -2nd a reference to the energy and excellent example set by the promoters ofthe Dunedin, Peninsula,, and Ocean Beach Railway. I quite agree with you that the construction of this line will be a very great boon to the inhabitants of this city. Tlie Ocean Ueaeh branch will ghe to crowded Dunedin an outlet and healthy promenade, such as very few cities in the world possess, whilst the extension to Portobello and the Heads, along the sunny slopes ofthe Peninsula, cannot be surpassed, for climate, scenery, and richness of soil; and before very few years elapse, land for villa residences on this side of our beautiful harbour will commend very largeprices. I am, as a citizen of this city, pleased that we have amongst us men who have the energy and ability to undertake Mich a useful work ; and, Sir, I quite agree with the Witness that the promoters'deshe, and which I am satisfied tbey have got, namely, the grateful thanks and admiration of their fellows. I wish them all' success from their grand enterprise. —I am, &.<_., CITIZEN.
