Colonel Feilding, the chief promoter of tthe Feilding block, is expected in- Welliug•ton in a few days. The Superintendent and the Provincial -Secretary proceed to Wairarapa to-morrow to open the Te Oreore Bridge. There will be luncheon and a ball. The Co-operative Baking Company, re- • cently started, is in process of liquidation. Auckland, January 12th. Mr Alex. Saundera reports:—Buyers of «Bank of New Zealand, £1S 4s ; North Shore, 15s ; Cure, 4s 9d; sellers of Fiji, £3 2s; National Insurance, £1 7s 6d ; City of London, £1 10s ; South British, £2 10s ; sales . of South British, £2 8s 6d. Alexandra, January 12th. Te Wheoro proceeded to Waitoina this -morning to meet Manuhiri and other King.ites to arrange a meeting in March next. '.The Natives are desirous of meeting M'Lean. Grahamstown, January 12th. A correspondent of the Evening Star, ■writing from Ohinemuri, says the notices -issued by Mr M'Kay and others against the prospecting are disregarded, and the Natives > offer no opposition. One party showed some 'nice specimens of alluvial gold, but no i guarantee is given that it was obtained c.there. One prospector who has been out a week expressed doubts as to the presence of gold, but reports fine specimens of silver ore. The Parawai Natives are about to form "themselves into a Volunteer company, It is stated that a special prize will be offered _at the Colonial meeting for competition by Natives. New Plymouth, January 12th. Major Atkinson left for Wellington to-day '.•-by the Lady Bird. Hokitika, January 12th. The steamer Otago took for Melbourne -14,7520zbf gold shipped from Westland, and about equal quantities from Hokitika and e-Greymouth. There are also 5000oz waiting shipment by the Tararua to-day_, making a .total value o*". over £70,600 shipped from "'-Westland during the week. Nelson, January 12th. In the Supreme Court, in the case Wyimond v. National Insurance Company, an - action to recover £400 and interest, insurance on furniture destroyed by a fire in April .last, the question at issue was whether the risk had been transferred from Wyinond's ..shop, which was burnt, to his private dwel ,ling-house. A verdict for the plaintiff for .the amount claimed was given. Mayor Dodson has resigned, on the ground .that he did not receive the support of the ■Council. Christchurch, January 12th. ' At the inquest on the body of the murdered girl, the evidence against Mercer was •■exceedingly strong. He has been remanded .for eight days for further evidence. Lvxtelton, January 12th. The Maori has arrived, and sails South, via Oamaru, to-morrow.
