Mr Henry Driver (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.) reports as follows for the week ending January Oth :—

Fat Cattle.—A fair supply of 125 head of good quality were yarded at the weekly sale to-day, and as tbe trade had worked off most of the excessive Christmas supply, they bid more spiritedly. Best pens ef bullocks realised from £10 to £14 each, do. cows from £0 to £12, and while all prime pens were keenly competed for, ordinary to medium were neglected, and I anticipate that this will be the result throughout the season. I consider really prime pens brought from 30s to 32s 6d per 1001b, ordinary from 22s to 235. I sold, on account of Messrs Thomson, Lindsay, Maunsell, and others, 60 head at top rates, and have placed 30 head privately. Fat Calves.—Only a few were penned, which I sold at from 20s to 50s each. Prime vealers are very scarce and saleable.

Fat Sheep.—llso were disposed of at the yards, consisting mostly of good quality shorn cross-breds, which brought from 14s 6<l to 16s 9d ; shorn merinos, from 9s 6d to 12s. The same remarks will apply as iv tbe case of above, viz., that any pens of good quality were almost invariably keenly competed for, and it is likely to be the case for some time to come. I quote present market value of prime shorn cross-breds at about 3d per lb ; merinos, 2Jd. I sold at the yards 500 cross-breds and merinos at top rates, and have placed privately, for forward delivery, 1250 cross-breds and merinos.

Fat Lambs.—2so were penned and disposed of at from 9s to 13s 9d each. I sold 100 at from lis to 13s 9d each.

Store Cattle—An unusual abundance of grass throughout the Province has caused an increased demand for good store cattle fit for paddock grazing, 3 to 6-year-old bullocks being readily saleable at from £510s to £6 10s ; dry cews at from £4 to £5. I have sold 75 head during the week. Store Sheep.—l have numerous purchasers for young merino sheep of every class; also, for cross-breds 4-tooth and upwards, but as yet the prices have scarcely been fixed, therefore few transactions have taken place. I have, however, disposed of 2500, at the _f4iU_,-.jn& _Yt.tna. <«..._.frtr—nwuac.l.Wi.l.. ?_(j»,t.l* <t" *.. - 4-tooth, 10s 6d; good full-mouthed merino ewes, at 4s 6d; merino wethers, 4-tooth and Hpwards, at 6s. Wool.—ln consequence of the interruption to business caused by the late holidays, I did not hold a Kale of wool to-day. I, however, purpose doing so on Wednesday, 13th inst.

Skeepskins.—My sale to-day was well represented by the trade, and prices obtained were about equal to late rates. I disposed of all offering at the following prices :—Butchers' half-breds, 6s to 6s 3d ; do merino 5s to 5s 6d; lambs, to 2s; pelts, 9d. Station skins - Pelts, 6d to ls 6d ; full-wool, 5s 6d. Hides are in better demand, and prices show an Advance or. late prices. I disposed of a lot of light to medium at from 15s to 22s 6d.

Gram.—Wheat, good milling, can be readily sold at ssi 6d; inferior, 4s Gd to ss. Oats are worth from 5s 3d to 5s 6d for feed, and up to 6s for superior milling samples. Malting barley is saleable at 5s 3d to 5s 6d : feed ditto, 4s 6d to 4s Od.
