THE WAIMEA HERD OF SHORTHORNS. At Meadow Baak Fans, East TaierL DRIVER, STEWART, and CO. beg to intimate that they have received instructions from George M. 8011, Esq., to sell by public auction, at his Farm, Meadow Bank, East Taieri (ten miles from Dunedin), on Thursday, 22nd October 1874, at 12.30 o'clock, ' The whole of that gentleman's Waimea herd of PURE SHORTHORNED CATTLE, Consisting o$: J g bulk, from 6 months to 3 years eld on heifers and cows. This Herd is sprung from Cows purchased from Messrs Morton Bros. & Leach, of Mount Derrimut Victoria, at their sile on sth November, 1807 ; the excellence of whose herd is so well known throughout the Australian Colonies that further comment is almost unnecessary ; but the number of Prizes won by the original cows of the Wahnea Herd in Australia, and the opinions of the Press thereon, pronounce them to be some of the. very best animals ever exhibited by those distinguished breeders. Mr Bell's selections at the sale above referred to comprised the April Flower tribe, descended from the Imported Cow April Flower; Queen of the Butterflies, the best heifer of her year; and her own sister, April Flower 3rd; Jessamine 3rd, winner of four first prizes; Jessamine 4th, also the winner of four first prizes, and the dam of the celebrated Jessamine 11th, acknowledged to be the best cow sold at the sale above-mentioned, and her offspring here, Waimea Formosa, and Lady Valentine sustain her reputation - Jessamine 20th: Jessamine 24th; &c, &c., &c. SIRE. The principal sire used in the herd is Prince Frederick, bred by the late Win. Robertson, Esq of Colac, Victoria, out of the imported cow Fanny, by the Beau. The Beau is by Yountr Rockingham, out of Lady Rockingham, a prize-winner at the Royal Agricultural Society's Show, hy Booth's Sir Roger, who left many prize-winners, and was used in the celebrated West Meath Herd, Ireland. The Beau has left the very hest stock in Mr Robertson's Herd, and his son, £rmce Frederick, has been equally successful in New Zealand. The above Cattle are all in splendid condition and are open to inspection at any time. Intending Purchasers and"the Public Generally arc invited to view this magnificent Herd before it is distributed, as it has no comparison in New Zealand, with few (if any) equal in a ustralia.
