Messrs M'Meekan, Blackwood, and Co.'a M.S.S. Albion, Captain Underwood, arrived at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers, at 8.45 a m. yesterday, with the European- mails, via Suez, 26 passengers, and about 100 tons of cargo. She left Hobson's Bay at 6 p.m. on the 27th ult.; cleared Port Philip Heads at 9 p.m. Fresh Tiead winds prevailed the first day out, then light winds and calm to the Ist inst., when strong easterly ■weather set .in, and continued until her arrival at the Bluff at 2.30 p.m. on the 2nd, after an excellent passage of 4 days 12^ hours ;rom the Heads. Landed ! mails, passengers, aud cargo, and left again at 8.30 p.m.; made the ruu from the Bluff in 12 hours, arriving as above. The A. and A. M. s.s. City of Adelaide, Captain Brown, arrived at the Railway Pier, Port Chalmers, at 11.40 a.m, yesterday, bringing the European May mails via 'Frisco, 23 passengers, and a few tons of cargo. She reached here just 15 hours after the Wellington, which took a portion of the San Francisco mail from Auck- . land to Southern ports, aud might as well have conveyed the Otago k;gs with the others. Since the City of Adelaide was here last month, she has been doing the work of the connecting boat between New Zealand and Kandavu. After leaving here, she ran the coast down to Auckland, fathering mails and passengers by the way, and then left Aucklaud for Kandavu at 2 p.m. oh the Bth ult. Had a fine- weather trip, and arrived there at 7 a.in. on the 13th, in company with H.M.S. Rosario. An hour afterwards the B.s. Tartar arrived from Sydney, and to her the City of Ade!aide transhipped New Zealand mails, passen-gers,-and cargo, and received from the Tartar cargo for New Zealand. The Tart-ir left for Sail Francises at 11 a.m. on the 14th, with a full complement of passengers, whilst the City then waited for the Mikado, due from San Francisco The Mikado, however, did not arrive until 10 am. on the 21st, having been detained 4 day 3at 'Frisco through the delay of . the mails on the Atlantic side. She also lost nearly • three'days between Honolulu and Kandavu repairing tubes, and had to go easy during the three days previous to her arrival at the latter port. The City of Adelaide transhipped mails, cargo, and passengers from the Mikado, and left for Auckland at 7.30 a.m. ;on the 22nd, and arrived there at 10 p.m. on the 26th. Experienced moderate pleasant weather on the passage. She left Auckland for the South at 6.30 p.m. on the 27th; arrived at Napier at 9 p.m. on the 29th, having encountered strong S.E. gales and a heavy sea. Left Napier at 6 am. on the Suth; arrived at. Wellington at 7.30 a;m., on the Ist inst.; coaled and landed mails, and put to sea again at 2 p.m. the same day, arriving at Lyttelton at 10 a.m. on the 2nd. Left again at 2.30 p.m , and arrived at the Port as above. She made but a short stay, leaving again for the North at 4 p.m., with a large outward mail and 38 passengers, and also the Suez mail brought by the Albion. The City's report states that the steamer Mikado was not expected to leave Kandavu for Sydney until the 23rd, her machinery having to receive some necessary repairs. The steamer Albiou left last evening for Melbourne, via the coast ports. Having to call at Kakanui to load grain, the Suez Mail she brought for Northern ports was transhipped to the City of Adelaide and sent on by that vessel. This arrangement, of course, being subsequent to her arrival here, when it was ascertained that the City of Adelaide would be available for the purpose. : The ship James Nicol Fleming was towed from the pier to the stream by the Geelong, and moored in lower Carey's Bay, in a convenient position for a start to sea. She was to have sailed to-day for Melbourne, but her departure has been postponed until eariy next week. The schooner Cambria, timber laden from Catlin's River, arrived yes;erday, and passed on to Dunedin. The schooner Maid of Otago arrived yesterday. She is from Oamaru, with a cargo of 750 bags of wheat for transhipment to the J. N. Fleming, and is now lying alongside that vessel. We cull the following items from the Melbourne Argus:— The barque Woodville, erst a regular trader between Newcastle and this port, altered her route and is now on her way to Auckland. The Argus telegrams report her having left Newcastle for that port on the 23rd ult. The s.s. Somersetshire arrived at Melbourne on the 25th ult., after a good run of 58 days from Plymouth. The Somersetshire is repotted not to bear the slightest trace of the fearful hammering she received in a gale during her passage home, but her rig has been altered from that of a full-rigged ship to a three-masted schooner. Her former commander. Captain Atwood, has retired, aud his place is filled by Captain Holt, late of the ship True Briton. The best day's run made by the Somersetshire during the passage was 357 miles, and 147 miles the shortest run for a similar period.—The brig Nil Desperandum, a regular

! trader between Melbourne and Fiji, encountered a fearful cyclone on the 29th May, when on her way to Melbourne. She was thrown on her beam-ends, and lost a suit of sails.
