Messrs Conkell akd Moodib report for the quarter endiug the 30th June, as follows:— , ; Notwithstanding the opening of blocks of waste lauds on the deferred payments' system/improved country lands, with good means of access, are saleable at high rates. .

We have recently sold the River Bank Farm, Clutha district, 258 acres, partly improved, the property of Mr Daniel Dunlop, to Mr. Win. Hay, at £4 per acre. ' The Mount llellevue Farm, Warepa District, 315; acres, partly improved, the property of Mr G. Taylor, to Mr John Geggie, at £4 2s (3d per acre. :

The Lambourne Estate, situate:at the confluence of the i.'lutha and Pomahaka Rivers, the property of Mr R. G. Wilson, area ISO 7 acres, at £5. per acre. Land partly improved. . .

We also notice the sale outside of the property of Messrs Maitland, fronting- the Clutha River, to Jlr A. Begg of Anderson's Bay, area 17,000 acres, at £3 per acre. Land also partly improved.

These rates we cannot but look upon as highly encouraging to owners of improved country freeholds.

In suburban lands the owners appear dispo-ed to hold for extreme prices. Last month we offered (on behalf of one of; our principals) above £20,000, or at the rate of £150 por acre, for a parcel a little over 130 acres, but the negotiation fell through on the matter of terms.

Town property has advanced to what may he regarded as extreme prices, especially for choice business sites. We have sold the ground and building lately occupied by David Baxter, and Co., with frontage to High 6trei=t of 25 feet, by depth of 40 feet'(opposite; Railway Station) to the Dunedin Savings Bank, for £3000; and we learn that the Colonial Bank has purchased the ground and building now used as offices by Messrs-Driver, Stewart, and Co., from Mr B. Hallen-; stein (40 feet frontage, by 60 feet depth), for the sum ; of.ifiGOOO. Really good building sites for private residences.are scarce within the limits of cityboundary, at; from £200 to £400 per quarter acre, and for small sub-; divisions a rate even higher has been obtained. Goodi suburban sites close to town are scarce, at from £100; to £200 per quarter-acre.- We-have sold at the latter; rtite within the last week. '.'". ; . . .. '

The Money Market.—TheT capital available for in-i .vestment on real securities has been, during the past: quarter,'rapidly'absorbed, and the market is now, almost.bare of any .very large sums. Six months agoi _we foundit'difficult to find desirable outlet for large' sums at anything over "six per cent.-,'iiow, we have enquiries we are unable to satisfy. We quote interest,; on good freehold /security,; to-day, 'at 1h per cent, for; large, and 8 per cent, for small sums, with'money scarce, j We cannot at present.see any. likelihood,. of interest'; falling: • A large portion: of local capital'will be en-i gaged in the operations and business of the new Colo-j nial Bank, and a considerable amount mil have disap- i peared in unsuccessful Joint Stock enterprise. We also; j understand that the various Banks and money lending; Joint Stock Companies have their capital fully engaged.; .Mr Bkadshaw reports the following cash transactions! for yesterday:—Sales—National Insurauce Co. shares,! £110S ; South British Insurance Co., £2 9s. j
