Sir—The Rev. Ms Bun Herman has now withdrawn the serious charge lie brought against Mr Gillies. He still, howevw, holds the swonl of his wrath over the Uaily Times, and denounces that paper in co measured terms. As the Daily Times and Witness are extensively read throughout Ofcago, perhaps it would bo as well if Mr Banucrman would now point out the passages, ipsixisinui verba if he will, wherewith the Daiiy Times has been in the habit of encouraging horse-racing and gambling on the Sabbath diy, the practice of "carnal indulgence," " sensual pleasure," and all the other immoralities darkly hinted at as being favourite pastimes of its contributors. I have read the Daily Times for several yell's, and have never seen such passages. Mr Gillies seems to have convinced Air Bannerman that he was wrong as far as be was concerned. Will Mr Baunenuan now come forward ami convince the people of Otago that although lie was wrong in the charges brought against Mr Gillies he is in the right in reitei ating the charges against the ' Uaily Times? This he can easily do by pointing j out the passages wherewith writers of the Daily Times are wont to go in heavy on the side of ungodliness, worldly lu&ts, carnal pleasures, &c. If he cannot do this, then 1 fear the reverend gentleman will not l)e regarded with such veneration as an oracle of truth next time he stands up before the wondering eyes <sf all the small boys and girls who gave him such rapt attention at the last Clutha soiree.— I am, &c, ; Glutha,
