'Completed will supply a much-felt -want in the township of Port Chalmers. The architect, Mr E. J. Saun- • ders, is also engaged preparing plans rfor contemplated additions on a laro-e = scale to the Shamrock Hotel, Rattray • street. _ The building designed for Mr ' Carroll is of a very substantial character, -and, we are informed by Mr Sanders, is to be built of atone and brick. The : ground floor will consist of a bar, private bar, sitting room, commercial room, 'dining room, kitchen, and offices. At the George street end of the site s, shop is to be erected. The upper fiat, to which -• access is gained by a fine staircase from. the two passages in the Octagon and 1 George street fronts, consists of sitting rooms and twenty bedrooms, and in ad- • dition to which, extra bedrooms are provided on the uppermost or dormer floor. 'The frontage occupied will be 104 ft. ; the rooms on the ground floor are 14ft. in height, those above 12ft., and the attic > floor is lofty and well ventilated. The "'brewery plans prepared by Mr Sanders • consists of a cellar, 90ft. long by 60ft. wide, and has a spacious verandah running the whole length of this part of the building ; adjoining is the tun room, the ■ dimensions of which are 39ft. long, 18ft. wide, 18ft. high. Over this are the store, \ 'boiler, and cooling rooms, of a combined i height of 19ft. Above these is another ■flat, 9ft. high, for the mash and wort ■ tuns. Over these several flats, provision ". is made for the liquor boiler. The whole ■ of the working of this part of the brewery will be carried on by steam power. "' We - are given to understand this embraces the present contract, but provision is made "for the erection of a malting kiln and "floor. The whole of these premises are to ■be of the most substantial character, and will be erected of brick on solid stone and - concrete foundations. Mr James Gore is v-the contractor for this building, and Mr Ahem the builder for the hotel in Port iJPort Chalmers.
