The Object of this Company is to coustruot a Head Water Race capable of carrying 00 Government heads of water, taking its supply from the Kanieri Lake, which wiU give a constant supply at all seasons of the year. It ia proposed to construct the Race through the auriferous district of Kanieri to the Big Paddock and Blue Spur, thus offering facilities to work a large extent of ground known to be auriferous, but hitherto unworkable through want of water. Ultimately the Town of Hokitika is to be supplied with water, and a very handsome return on the invested capital is anti cipated from this source alone. The Cost of the undertaking in its entirety is etiniated at about £20,000, half of which is being applied for by the Company from the General Government under the regulations of " The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1872," and been promised subject to approval of the detailed plans of the work-thus leaving only £10,000 to be subscribed by the pubii •, of which upwards of £5000 have, been already taken up in Hokitika and the District; through which the Race passes. It is confidently anticipited that the Race when complete will give an income of £7SOO per annum, from which amount will have to be dedu ted £1500 for maintenance, interest, and charges; thus showing a profit of £0300 per annum, supposing only 30 heads of water were sold at £3 per held per week, ior 8 working hours per day, and £2 per head for the remaining 16 hourß out of the 24.
