Wellington, December 2nd. The General Government have received a communication from the Victorian. Government, enclosing copies of the correspondence of the latter Government with. tUope of the other Colonies regarding the Postal Conference. A very acrimonious feeling prevails between Victoria and New South°Wales about the position assumed by the former, and it is now suggested that the Conference should bo held at Hobart Town, in order that the discussion may take place ou neutral ground. The Victorian Government state that they will not be parties to any contract for a service from Galle, unless the terminus is at Melbourne, but they will give loyal consideration to proposals for other mail services, in which other Colonies have a. direct interest. This 1b supposed to bear favourably upon the 2>feV Zealand contract for a S™ Francisco mail service. The New South Wales Government object to ■ Hobart. Town being the seat of the Conference, but the Governments of South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria are ! favourable to the proposal, and the consent of the New Zealand Government to it is asked.

There were present: —Mr Miller, Arrow, in the chair; Mr Alexander, Dunatan; Mr Allan, Cardrona ; Mr Anderson, Roxburgh ; Mr Shaw, Switzers ; Mr Ferris, Waitahuna ; Mr Gray, Table Hill ; Mr Morrison, Tuapeka ; and Mr Crombie, Cromwell. The members are at present airanging the programme of subjects for discussion.
