WooL—Our I»ndon agents, under date 19th tSeptember, report as follows :—

" The fourth series of Colonial wool sales for the present year, commenced on the 12th iust. The arrivals comprise 05,729 bales, of which 33.50G bales are New Zealanda. Of the above, about 5000 bales were forwarded direct to the manufacturing districts, and the old stocks amounted to 20,000 to 30,000 bales. On the opening night the »ale room was very well attended by both homo and foreign buyers, and biddings were spirited, particularly on French account, and prices for greasy advanced 4d to Id per lb., while washed Port Phillip, Sydney, and New Zealand fleece is full Id per lb dearer, Capes about the same as at last series. Sinew the commencement prices have been fairly maintained, and the same spirit continues, and we look for no alteration to the close, or, indeed, till the end of the year." Continued as the above report is in the main by priced catalogues to hnnd by the same mail, it nevertheless appears to us that with regard to Otago wools only the choicest descriptions of light greasy and washed clips have improved to the extent stated. Medium and inferior greasy and washed flocks rule but little, if at all, in advance of the rates current at the previous series. First portions of several clips have reached our stores, but not yet sufficient to warrant us in expressing any general opinion as to the growth or condition of this season's produce. Sheepskins.—Our usual weekly Bale today was well attended, and all the lots catalogued—comprising 990 skins—were disposed of at fair pricea. Dry station skins realized : Merinos, 2s 9d to 6s 7d. Butchers' skins : Merino, 5s lOd to Cs 7d ; cross-breds, 8s 3d to 9s each.

Hides—Continue in good demand, at fully lato quotations. We offered only a few, which sold (all faults) at 15s each.

Tallow—ls in fair request. At axiction, we disposed of 30 casks, at £32 10s to £33 10s per ton. Now Zealand Hemp.—The market has been more active since receipt of late favourable telegrams from England. The quantity offering, however, is limited. We have placed about 40 bales at prices ranging from £21 to £26.

Grain. —Wheat is in slightly better request, but without any advance on last week's quotations, viz., 5s 3d to 5s Gd for good samples. Oats are freely saleable at 28 Id to 2s 2d for g^ood feed, and 2$ 3d for prime milling qualities.
