WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Waste JLands Board iva« held yesterday. There wore present —the Chief Commissioner, Mr J. T. Thomson, in the chair, and Messrs Allan, Duncan, Hughes, and Tolmie. Approval of an estimate of the carrying capacity of run 440, Tautuku, was postponed. The area of the run was about 2QOO acres, and the estimate was that it wbu!d cany 80 head of cattle. | Messrs Button and Stratford, and Messrs M'Pheo, M'PJieraon^ and Green, applied for sawmill licenses in. the Glenomaru district, and it was resolved that they 'Should be granted on the usual terms. It was resolved that the application of Mr Stephen It owe, for a coal, lease of four acres on the coal reserve, block V., Tuapeka East district, should be dealt with according to the Board's resolution of the 2nd October, relative to the granting of mineral leases.

The application of Mr Fritz Eichardt, to purchase a quarter of an acre in the rear of sections 1, 2, and 3, block IX., Arrowtown, was refused, the land being part of a mining reserve. 4 . Applications osfullows to purchase lands held by the respective appliconts under agricultural leases, were approved of. Mr Henry Clark, sections 2 and 17, block XLVII., and 3, 4, 5, 13, and 14, block XLVJL, Tokomairiro; Mr A. C. Thomson,, section 4, block JX. r Shotover; Mr Phillip Vincent, section 8, block XIX., Shotover. Mr G. F. Beid appeared for ]VCr Vincent. A decision on Mr »T. G. Merton, applied to purchase quarry reserve, section 76, block 11., Waikouaitil to complete his property. It was resolved that the land be sold by auction as land of special value, having been «o long withheld from sale, at the upset price of 21u per acre. Sir G. F. Reid's application for Mr John Perry, to purchase a piece of tinsurveyed land outside the township of Tapamii, was refusedMr G. F. Reid, for Messrs J. W. Itobertflon and Co., applied for an annual license to occupy about 75 acres of Kinloch township as a paddock. The Board bad no power at present to grant the application, and Mr Reid accordingly withdrew it, with a view to bringing it on again when the new Act came into force.

Mr G. F. Reid, for Messrs J. W. Robertson and Co., applied for a jetty site at Kinloch.' 100 feet of frontage w&& granted on the usual terms. The District Warden reported on the complaint of Mr C. R* Red den'a solicitors that Mr John Fitzgerald was illegally cultivating part of the mining reserve, Tuapeka Flat, to the effect that some of the statements made were exaggerated, and that Mr Fitzgerald had desisted cultivating the ground referred to. Ranger Hugh an reported on bush reserve section 43, block"l., Warepa, applied for by Mr Street, It was resolved ■that the land be sold by auction, as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale, and at the upset price of £1 Is per acre.

The District Wnrden reported on the application of Mr John Creighton to parchase part of his residence area at Naaeby, and had no objections to the Bale. It was resolved that the Irmd be sold by auction at the usual upset price, with survey charge and valuation added.

Mr John Ttting was granted a coal lease at Wendon for a terra of 14 years, at the rate of £5 per annum ; coal to be sold at the pit's mouth at not more than 15« per ton.

A matter regarding a piece of land whioh two persons had applied to purchase, one in freehold and the other under the agricultural regulations, was referred to the Government. Mr Street appeared for one of the applicants.
