("fitj A iuj(o-Australian Tclt/jraph.) THE BOSTON FIRE. London, November 10th. (i p.m. Boston, U.S., was partially destroyed by fire to-day. The fire raged unchecked with great fury, and many of the principal buildings were destroyed. The military authorities were appealed to to blow •up large buildings to arrest the progress of the llamea. The chief seat of tho lire was in Commercial and Centre streets in North Boston, between tho Bay and Charles River. There were 700 firemen on the ground. November 11th. 11.22 p.m. The ravages of the fire exceed the worat anticipations. The district destroyed covers 100 acres, and includes the establishments of all tho principal hide and wool merchants in the city. The buildings burned were chiefly new, and of granite. They comprised 039 business premises, and GO dwelling houses. Tho progress of the fire was arrested by blowing up buildings. A panic is apprehended in Wall street. November 12th. A semi-panic, caused by the lire, prevailed upon the [New York ?J Stock Exchange yesterday, but the excitement has now calmed down. Secretary Boutwell, of the United States Treasury, in order as much as possible to prevent a panic and alleviate the distress, will aid by selling gold hugely. Tho latest return states the loss at 80,300,000 dok. (about £10,000,000). Tho London Insurance Companies suffer severely ; as also do tho Equitable Safety Insurance Co. of Massachusetts, the Mutual, the Globe, the Boston Insurance, and Prcseott Fire oflices, as well an Continental offices.
