Thoiuac.n v. Stumbles. —This case first ■csuno before the Court on the flth inst., plaintiff seeking to recover £9 16a, for rent for a house and paddock at Port Chalmers. The plaintiff asserted that the rent was not payable iti advance, and that when Stumbles gave up the laud, he owed the half-year's rent claimed. Defendant stated that the rent waa payable in advance, and that when he settled 'up with Thomson, all rents owing to the latter had been pai.l. The case was adjourned till yHterday, to allow of the production of certain receipts which, it was supposed, would throw some light upon the matter. A fter looking over the receipts produced, the Magistrate said he wag inclined to favour the phiutiff s view of the matter, and gave judgment for the amount claimed, with costs.
