THE TICHBORNE CASE.
{The Timm, May 2.) ; In pursuance of the order of Mr Justice Byles, as mentioned in tho Times on a former occasion, Mr Gorton, the solicitor for the Claimant, has appeared and pleaded to the indictment of forgery. A plea of " Not guilty " has been recorded. Nothing further it is expected will be heard of the indictments for perjury and forgery until after the long vacation. It is probable that the indictment for perjury will he first heard before a special jury, and not the charge of forgery, under which the defendant could ask to Imj tried by a common jury. A summons was before Mr Justice Byles, at Chambers, on Tuesday, in "Tichbornev. Mostyn," which was an action to recover the Doughty estates, and the application was for a stay of proceedings until the costs in the ejectment suit, " TichJborne t?. Lushington," had been paid. The matter had been before the Court at Westminster, and the application wasdiscussed, but it wasthoughtadvisable thatcounselßhould bo heard on both sides, and tho matter was to be brought before the full Court. The question was whether the second trial could be allowed until the costs in the other case, amounting to a considerable sum, were paid. It was stated tllat the matter involved a question as to £80,000, and that the second trial would incur an expense of some £40,000. "~
