PLOUGHING MATCH.

(FROM OVK BLUEHKIN CORRESPONDENT.) The annual ploughing match for thia \ district waa.held here on the 21st Juno, in a paddock belonging to Mr Puller, near the 12th mile. The ground fixed upon I was very suitable for the purpose, being nearly level, and handy to the main road, and in good condition for the match. As the day held up fine until evening, there was a better attendance of visitors than I have seen on previous occasions of the sort; and as the prizes given were good, there was a larger field of competitors. The Taieri Derby and Waikouaiti matches had been appointed for the same day originally, but were postponed through a friendly feeling on the part of the Committees respectively, so as to avoid any clashing, and for this [have "been revested to return thanks, -Of the prizes, a silver medal, value £3 3s, wits given by Mr Telfer, jeweller, of Duncdin, to be won twice by the same ploughman in the high cut class in < different years. The other prizes, as will be seen from the list appended afc.foot, were, money and goods. In the evening the dinner was held at theWaitati llqtej,"and was provided by j host and hoste&s Souness in an abundant and excellent manner. , Mr James .Green, M.P.C., occupied the chair, and was supported by. JMxJDavid Wright .in the vicechair, and between 50 and 60 other gentlemen. After the iisudl loyal toasts bad i heen disposed of,' We Tice-Chalrmah'gave"i " The Superintendent: Jand,; Provincial Council." - Other toa»t«, including that of " The Judges," coupled, with the names of Mr Cullen from the'Taieri, Mr Grant, Dunedin, and Mr Walter Park, followed,, and were fiucceecled, after replies frqlrnj those gentlemen, by the toast ">f the even-' ing, " Success to the JBlueskin Ploughing Society," which was given by Mr Cullen. Then came, " The Successful Competitors" from the chair ; "The Unsuccessful; " "Tho Oldest Settlers," by Mr, Evans, coupled/ with the -name of. ; Mt pavid Miller; who expressed tho pleasure it gave him in : being present at such a ineeting. for it was 24 years since he had first sot foot in Biacskin, and it had delightedhiin to hold ,a plough on ,the day ' just closed. A ■number of other toasts were heartily given and responded to. . i ;?Mr Pulfer provided an excellent luncheon at- hi* homestead to competitors and friends, and there was one booth on the , ground under Ha& care<of-Mr Jifcmness. The match, I j have pleasure in stating, was a great success. ' ; r The following i* the prize list: — ; j -rr««!noTwrincrirTam'^l^T!NTßTEs;~ """ ! Owners. £.BiXuH Ploughmen.
