Tho s.B. Beautiful Star returned from Oamaru on Saturday, and came on to Dunedin. The United States mail steamer Nevada, with tho European and American mails, arrived at Port Chalmers at a quarter to eight yesterday morning. Her mails and passenfitfs, together with the Phoebe's, which arrived afterwards, were conveyed to town by the p.s. Peninsula. From the Nevada's log wo learn that she left Honolulu on the 3rd tilt, at fi.2op.ra., experienced fine weather till the 14th, when it became boisterous. On the 18th, she encountered n very heavy gale from tho W.8.W., with high seas, and lalwured heavily. Tho gale continued until her close approach to Auckland, at which port she arrived at at 11.15 p.m., on the *l Ist. Left at 8.30 p.m. on the 23rd, with heavy S.S.W. gales, veering in to S.E., •weather thick, with heavy sea. Arrived off Napier at 5 p.m. on tho 25th; discharged mails, and sriilcl at 6.20 p.m. for Wellington, arriving there at 0.25 p. m. outhe26th. Lnfiiut 9.1 m p.m. on the 27th ; reached Lvttelton at 3.30 p.m. on tho 28th ; left again at 4.55 a.m. on the 21) th, and arrived as above. We thank Captain Blcthen and her purser for files of American and other papers. The Nevada, in coming down the coast, encountered terrific adverse weather, and her commander being anxious to come up to time, hardly ever left the deck. In fact, he haa only had his clothes off for a "turn in" two hours during tho passage from Auckland. Mr Davis, hor old chief officer, is still at his post, and looks as jolly as ever. The inimitable barber is also to be found on board. The s.s. Phoebe, from Oamaru, arrived shortly after the Nevada ; and anchored close to the Graving Dock, in order to take in some jarrah logs for the Welling_ton Patent Slip. During the Phoebe's sojourn at Oamaru she met with heavy easterly seas sotting in on the coast. The 8.8. Maori put in an appearance from luar regular round trip to Lyttelton

and intermediate porte at 0.30 p.m. yesterday, and berthed alongside the ehipi Wild Deer to discharge preserved meat*, &c. The Maori feft Lyttelton at 4 p.m. on Thursday last, edeonntctred a very heavy adverse gale, and put into Le Bon Bay lor shelter. Moderating, she proceeded t:> Akaroa, where she arrived at 11 sum. on Friday. Sailed at G. 30 p.m., and arrived at Timara at 7 a.»i..on Saturday. Left there at 8.30 p.m. Called at Oamaru, and arrived as stated. From Akaroa she had thick weather, with heavy easterly roll setting in. We thank Capttin Malcolm for file*. The ketches Eliza M'Phec and Lloyd's Herald from Catlin'siUvcr,' arrived yesterday forenoon. A fall rigged ship arrive*! oiT the Heads last evening, a* little before dusk. She is supposed to be the WilliawDaviw, 83 days out from Glasgow, with a number of Government Immigrants on )x>'<ird. The Storm Bird left last evening for Southland with the San Francisco mails and a goodly number of passengers. Our Rivertoit correspondent, writing on the 27th June, says :—" The schooner Av-'a-rua, Captain Gilroy, with Daniel and party for BHgh Sound, in search of tin, dropped down'the river at 5.30 lost evening, but had not left this morning."
