OUR STreets. TO The EDITOR.
Sin—l am sure you must have noticed the dirty state of our main streets this last day or two; and you may draw from this and what " Humanity " has; eaid in his letter of the 29th ult., a right conception of the bad condition in which our hack streets are to be found. I can assure you that Castle street »outh is almost impassable—it is quite a cesspool. The inhabitants cannot get into St. Andrew street without trudging through mud knee deep, and if this weather continues, we shall have to employ horses to get from our honses to our various place* 1, of business, an we had boats in the days of yore. At the prenent tune there is a good speculation for booifc'Bellera who have a large quantity of unsaleable indiarubber high boots on hand. From the pig-sty fashion in which, this part of the street is kept, I should be led to think (if I did not know differently) that the ratepayers in this neighbourhood did not pay their taxes very punctually. Sir, I believe in the maxim Dum viuim'u*, rivamwt, and not to be half smothered in mud.
I think it in high time that the residents in Castle street south looked after ; their own intercuts, if their representative in the City Council does not think it worth his while to do so.
Trusting this will have its desired effect, I am, &c,
Corrigenda.
