HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir—ln reference to Mr Morton's letter in Tuesday's issue,f ; about fche accident to his child, I cannot see how he can make the statement he has done, seeing that he Avas absent at the time ; neither could Mrs Morton, for she was all the time in a swoon. The particulars of the case are as follows :— One afternoon, about a month ago, Avhile standing in my yard, I heard loud screams coming from Mr Wilson's well. I grasped a rope, and when I Avent there found a child in the act of drowning. Some person present lowered down the rope and bucket, which the child grasped, and was about to let go his hold when I stretched myself doAvn as far as I could reach, grasped the child by the arm, and brought him to the surface. For this I did not expect any compensation, but the good people of Caversham thought otherAvise, and presented me Avith a most handsome Family Bible, for which I hereby return them my most sincere thanks.—l am,

~ William Clark, Caversham, June 28th.
