In the import market there has been, no great amount of business done during the last two or three days, though it is possible to note the commencement of a better country demand, and quite likely that towards the latter part of the month an improved trade will be doing. In values there are no

changes to note, nor are the prospects of the market altered in any respect by recent advices; generally, the town sales have been small. A few lines of good congous have been quitted at well maintained rates. Sugars have moved, but scarcely so freely. Brandies and whiskies continue extremely dull. Genevas are better stock, but the sales of these, as of all other goods in the import market, are almost too small to note. The produce markets show considerable firmness. Wheats are quoted at ss—the rate given for some parcels of size quitted some days ago; but there are no holders of good parcels who care to quit at the figure. Oats are placed at 3s, though there is scarcely any export en" quiry. Fine flour remains at Ll2 10s to Ll3 for current parcels. Millers indisposed to take large orders.

In the auction marts there has been nothing of importance going on.

The Oamaru Times of the 6th inst. reports : —

Wheat is still firm with an upward tendency, present quotation for good 3s 9d. Oats, 2s 2d to 2s 3d, in fair enquiry. Barley no demand, value nominal. Potatoes in fair demand, LI 17s 6d. We have heard of no transactions in oaten or grass hay. Flour, Lll 5s to Ll2, according to quality. The meat sales are well attended, but prices rule very low, and there is a consequent depreciation in the value of fi.t stock.
